
Eunice Kathleen Waymon, better known by her stage name Nina Simone, was an American singer, songwriter, pianist, arranger, and civil rights activist widely associated with jazz music. Tax issues forced her to relocate to other countries, including France, where she died in 2003.
Cynthia Mort will direct from her own script. Mark Burton, Barnaby Thompson, Stuart Parr and Ben Latham Jones are producing.
Saldana recently completed Out of the Furnace, a thriller that also stars Christian Bale and Casey Affleck.
