Sony Pictures Animation is prepping a big-screen version of the short lived 1980s TV series MANIMAL. Having picked up movie rights to the NBC series, the studio is planning to develop the project into a live action/CG hybrid film, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Glen A. Larson, an established TV producer of the 80s created the show that lasted only eight episodes. He was also responsible for such programs as "Magnum P.I.," "Knight Rider" and "Battlestar Galactica."

MANIMAL followed Dr. Jonathan Chase (Simon MacCorkindale), "a wealthy doctor with a mysterious past, who morphed into animals in order to help the police fight crime."
