Bomback takes over writing duties previously held by Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa, who wrote the initial draft, before Scott Burns came aboard to pen his version.
Matt Reeves will helm the film, that continues the tale of super-intelligent Caesar (Andy Serkis) who leads an ape uprising depicted in director Rupert Wyatt's 2011 hit, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which Bomback did uncredited work on.
In addition to Die Hard and Recall, Bomback also worked on the Denzel Washington and Chris Pine starrer, Unstoppable, and most recently The Wolverine starring Hugh Jackman.
DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES is slated for a May 23, 2014 release.
